Massive or Massless Scalar Field and Confinement

چکیده
Generalization of QCD motivated classical SU(2) Yang–Mills theory coupled to the scalar field is discussed. The massive scalar field, corresponding the scalar glueball, provides a confining potential for static, point–like, external sources. In case of massless scalar field screening solutions are found. However, there is a confining sector as well. Both, massive and massless confining solutions are compared with phenomenological potentials. The case of non-dynamical permittivity is also discussed. 1 The model Recently, Dick and Fulcher [1] have proposed an interesting model where the lowest glueball, represented by a massive scalar field φ, has been in a non-minimal way coupled to the SU(2) gauge fields. They have chosen, in analogy with the chiral quark models [2], one–glueball coupling: φF F a μν . Their model provides confinement of quarks and gives a quite reasonable [email protected] [email protected]

We discuss a model with a massless scalar coupling to the Yang-Mills SU(2) gauge field in four-dimensional space-time. The solutions from static, pointlike colour source are given. There exists not only solutions with finite energy but also singular one which describes confinement. The confining potential depends on the δ parameter of our model. The regular magnetic monopole solutions as well a...
متن کاملCritical collapse of a massive vector field
Critical gravitational collapse was first found by Choptuik[1] in simulations of a spherically symmetric massless scalar field. A natural question to pose is then how critical collapse behaves when the scalar field has a mass, since this will introduce a characteristic length that destroys the scale invariance of the field equations. This question was studied by Brady et. al.[2] The results of ...
متن کاملHow unique is the expected stress-energy tensor of a massive scalar field?
We show that the set of ambiguities in the renormalized expected stress-energy tensor allowed by the Wald axioms is much larger for a massive scalar field (an infinite number of free parameters) than for a massless scalar field (two free parameters). We also use the closed-time-path effective action formalism of Schwinger to calculate the expected value of the stress-energy tensor in the incomi...
متن کاملSemiclassical effects in black hole interiors
First-order semiclassical perturbations to the Schwarzschild black hole geometry are studied within the black hole interior. The source of the perturbations is taken to be the vacuum stress-energy of quantized scalar, spinor, and vector fields, evaluated using analytic approximations developed by Page and others (for massless fields) and the DeWitt-Schwinger approximation (for massive fields). ...
متن کاملMassive Scalar Field in an One-Dimensional Oscillating Region
The classical scalar massive field satisfying the Klein-Gordon equation in a finite one-dimensional space interval of periodically varying length with Dirichlet boundary conditions is studied. For the sufficiently small mass, the energy can exponentially grow with time under the same conditions as for the massless case. The proofs are based on estimates of exactly given mass-induced corrections...
